- Social Networking and performance evaluation in scientific centers – John Hogenesch
You may not appreciate this (Jonathan Eisen, I know you do) but baseball is a statistical game. In fact, there is an entire area of baseball statistics dedicated to performance evaluation.
Baseball has a $2.7 billion payroll. Science’s payroll is much greater than 10 times that. However, we tend to evaluate performance by BOGSAT (Bunch of Guys/Girls Sitting around a Table) and steer well clear of quantitative metrics of performance.
Here we apply automated data retrieval, social networking analysis, and visualization to the performance evaluation of scientific institutes and individuals. Key questions that are addressed include replacement value, recruiting, space planning and operations, and Center/Institute performance dynamics.
