Carpooling and Room-sharing
This is the page for attendees to find each other, to share rides (those who are driving in) and to share rooms at Radisson RTP hotel.
When buying flight tickets, you want to fly into the Raleigh-Durham (RDU) airport and then call the hotel to send the free shuttle to pick you up. Transportation to and from the hotel, airport and conference venues will be provided for free. Also, check out the restaurant options near RDU, from quick and cheap to leisurely and upscale if you intend to get some meals on your own. And then try to do some of the Science/Nature things in the Triangle, NC while you’re here.

If you are want to skip on any of the events and do something else instead, use this space to get organized:
McClatchy alumni, reinventing journalists/coders tweetup/meetup
Suggesting: A meetup for journalists, coders and other interested parties, especially McClatchy alumni and current employees, in The Quorum at The Radisson RTP, 150 Park Drive, Research Triangle Park, at 10 p.m. on Friday night, or 10 p.m. Saturday night. I prefer Friday, because I suspect my introvert brain will be completely worn out by 10 p.m. Saturday night. Open to other venues, but hotel bar makes logistics easy for those at the conference. If anyone knows whether The Quorum shuts down early or can call to make sure they stay open late, that’d be great. In addition: Possible meetup in Chapel Hill or Carrboro on Sunday afternoon, 2:30 ish to 4:30 ish, at Weaver Street, Open Eye or Sprat’s, whichever will be least crowded on a rainy Sunday in a college town. Open to suggestions for other venues.
Also suggest: Using Foursquare, the mobile phone app, or Triout, which I think is a mobile app born in North Carolina, to locate each other and deal any with last minute changes.
Suggestion from Andria Krewson, Class of ’09, Charlotte Observer. underoak on Twitter and Andria K. on Foursquare. Twitter is preferred method; I’m a bit shy on Foursquare.
In:
mtdukes, or Tyler Dukes, Web producer for News 14 Carolina and lover of journalism, beer, science and technology. Not necessarily in that order.
Rock climbing?
I understand there’s a climbing wall in R-D. Anyone interested in bouldering with me on Friday or Saturday night? Any locals know any details? If you’re interested, shoot me an email at maddox22 at netscape.net. —Kate
